Smarter Football launched in 2015 with the goal of making the game safer. The idea is two-fold: Teams prove their commitment to safety, and Riddell provides equipment and technology that is designed to ensure player health.
As part of the program, Riddell is donating a total of $100,000 in equipment to the teams that best articulate how an equipment grant will strengthen their ability to implement a safer, smarter game on and off the field. Parents, players, coaches and fans can now apply for a chance to win an equipment grant for the upcoming 2016 football season at smarterfootball.riddell.com.
Come this fall, the Centerville Big Reds football team will be among the first schools in the state to fully implement concussion monitoring technology in their helmets for all players at the high school level. The Centerville School District, using funds from the Centerville Big Red Athletic Booster Club, purchased 80 football helmets from Riddell for a cost of $30,800 — a little over $500 per helmet. All of the helmets come with Riddell’s impact monitoring system, InSite.

Next season every Eagles football player – from varsity to junior high – will wear Riddell’s state-of-the-art SpeedFlex Helmets, designed to disperse energy and reduce the risk of head trauma. The Exeter School Board this month approved purchase of 145 helmets at a cost of $55,825. Exeter players will be the first in Berks County to wear them.
